CUSTOMER'S NEEDS COME FIRST AS T.D. SAWVEL
INTRODUCES MODEL 113S-K SCALE-FILLER KIT FOR LIQUID FOODS PACKAGERS

Automated Packaging Machine NewsSawvel's new 113S-K offers unparalleled versatility with its compact, single-head, scale-controlled liquid filler. This model is perfect for customers who need a better fill system for their edible oils, milk-based liquids, or other liquid foods -- but are looking to hold down costs. Sawvel's new model is guaranteed to enable the customer to fill product containers accurately by weight. This system is designed to be very flexible, says T.D. Sawvel president Troy Sawvel. The customer can buy it in kit format, set it on his table and hook it up to his hopper. Its a very affordable option.

The model 113S-K starts at less than $8,000. The kit includes a scale indicator, a base with load cell, a 1.5" LEE air-operated ball-valve assembly, and FRL assembly. The scale base and control indicators are set up for easy install onto the customers existing table. Options shown in photo are universal frame assembly (convertible for left or right hand operation), fill valve mounting post and model 119 lid press. Options not shown include: larger filling valves, a product supply hopper, roller In-feed and out-feed platforms, and swivel castor.

Model #120-SRVO: Automatic Inline Hi-Speed Continuous Flow Volumetric Filler

Bottom-Up Volume Filling machineT.D. Sawvel is thrilled to introduce its evolutionary Model 120-SRVO Automatic Inline Servo-Driven Filler designed for high volume production of nested containers from 32 oz to 64 oz round or non-round. This machine is typically used in packaging ice cream, frozen yogurt, whipped butter and similar products.

This model combines the proven Continuous Flow, Bottom-Up Volumetric Fill System of our original Model 120 (which eliminates air-pocket formation in the filling process) with an all new servo driven container denesting and indexing assemblies.  Our continuous flow filling system produces the industry's best possible variegated and multi-colored patterns by providing an uninterrupted flow path from pattern introduction straight into the containers.

Screw Feed DenesterThe computer-controlled servo-drive motors along with the new variable pitch screw feed denester and split pocket container indexer have raised the production rate to 80 containers per minute (continuous duty!).  However, it can be run at speeds as high as 90 cpm intermittently.

A compact footprint allows this model to be easily moved in and out of the line if needed, and two of these machines can fit into less space than one big dual lane filler and run 40 cpm faster!!

Dairy Foods Article:  Pint Size Automation

Boutique ice cream operations face unique challenges.  The ice cream industry seems particularly well suited to classic mom-and-pop success stories. National markets may be dominated by multinationals like Unilever (Ben & Jerry’s), Néstles (Häagen-Dazs), and Allied Domecq (Baskin-Robbins). But myriad smaller, niche-market ice cream makers still find ways to thrive. Many are family owned; many flourish by appealing to local sensibilities, emphasizing local ingredients and flavors.   more...

LET’S TALK:  Communication between package designers and automation experts is the missing link in our industry.

When marketers sit down to design packaging for new products, easing the manufacturing process is often the last thing on their minds. But if they don’t want to think about it, maybe CEO’s should, because automation problems caused by unsuitable packages can put a big dent in the bottom line.  more...

Tapping a New Market:  University Dairies and Food Science Departments

We in the food packaging equipment industry sometimes forget just how important a role is played by university food science and nutrition departments. Over the last several decades they have become a key link in the chain that brings consumers the inexpensive and safe food we so often take for granted.   more...
